Red and Green

Hindeloopen is a Dutch town in West Friesland.
Hindeloopen is famous for it's traditional costumes and because of the captain's houses and the smaller likhuizen in the characteristic narrow Streets.
Internationally famous is Hindeloopen known for it's art of painting and the bright colors and traditional floral patterns on furniture and other household goods.
Mostly red, black and green.
Scandinavian and VOC influences,
as you can see on the photo below.

Hindeloopen was the seat of the Baltic Sea and because they themselves had no port, Amsterdam was home port.
Hindeloopen was once a rich trading town, which all got city rights in 1225.
Highlight of the flowering period was between 1650 and 1790.

I like it myself so much, look at my miniatures.
Hand-painted by Godelief de Jong from

"Wagon Mountain Studio"
She specialised in old Dutch furniture decorated in the Hindelooper art of painting from the 16th till the 19th century.

The small's skates!
Beautiful don't you think.

My new project.

I have been so busy with my study cultural history, at the open University of the Netherlands.
The dutch cultural History is so interesting.
And as you all know, the Dutch culture is my inspiration for building my dollhouse roomboxes and miniatures.

But now I have the time to pick up my hobby again and have plenty of new inspiration.

I am working on a 17th century dutch fireplace.

To be continued……….
